Canton Tea Company Spring Tea Sampler Deal!

Canton Tea Company has just came out with their new spring teas! How exciting! They have a great sampler pack, which includes, 10g of Snow Bud Tea (Xue Ya), 10g of Mao Jian, 10g of Bai Lin Gong Fu and 10g of Ye Sheng or Wild White tea!

Here are the descriptions of these teas from their press release to make your taste buds tremble 🙂

Mao Jian is made up of soft, curly, tippy leaves, a higher grade and even better than last year. A refreshing, light easy-drinking green.

Xue Ya or Snow Buds are bright, sappy and seriously moreish. Once steeped, unfurl the perfect tips and nibble the soft green buds.

Bai Lin Gong Fu made from the same long curly buds as the Wild White but fully oxidised into this caramel smooth black tea.

Ye Sheng or Wild White is a tea with a beautiful mix of long silvery buds and young leaves. It is an ideal all-day, summer tea, very soft on the palate with a creamy depth and a satisfying full-bodied, warm fruity note, lifted by the mildest hint of flint (from that excellent ground).”

I cannot wait to try these teas! Look for reviews from me in the next 2 weeks!
Finally, if you can’t wait and must have your first springtime teas right now, then here is a promotional code for my fabulous readers SPRING2011 ,which will entitle you to a 50% discount on the spring tea sampler! That’s a pretty awesome deal, samples of 4 fresh spring teas, for around $8!?

Here is some additional information from their website about the Great Taste Awards!

Canton Tea Co has been awarded eight Golds in 2010’s Guild of Fine Food Great Taste awards, adding to the six Gold awards we won last year. These are the leading UK specialty food and drink awards, and are judged by top European chefs and food writers.

  • Our handmade Bai Lin Gong Fu Black tea won the top prize of Three Star Gold. Only 91 products out of
    6,017entries achieved three stars.

  • Ali Shan Oolong from Taiwan and Jasmine Pearls both took Two Star Golds.

  • Vietnamese Puerh, Silver Needle White Tea, Meng Ding Huang Ya Yellow Tea, Pouchong Green and Milan Dan Cong Oolong all won One Star Golds.

Once again the Guild of Fine Food’s expert judges have recognized really high grade teas. These are prestigious, independent awards and we were up against strong competition from some big companies and established specialists. We have now won gold fourteen times in our first two years. It shows that sourcing seasonal teas direct from small producers wins out.

Review of Jasmine Pearls from Canton Tea Co.

Brand: Canton Tea Co. Jasmine Pearls

Tea Rating: 90/100

Steep Time: 1-3 Minutes

Steep Temperature: approx. 170 Degrees

This is a green tea that is infused with the jasmine flower. An interesting thing about this tea is the leaves are the Silver Needle white tea harvest, but are processed as a green tea. Usually Jasmine teas are very perfume  like, where you have to be very careful when steeping them, because one mistake could lead to disaster. I didn’t find that with this tea at all. On first impression, the pearls were gorgeous, they looked soft and smelled divine. The pearls are much smaller than I have experienced in the past. The tea is not like some jasmine teas that can be excessively scented through oils or flavoring, which usually cause a highly floral taste and aroma, which is unsettling for me. Instead, Canton Tea Co. naturally scents the Silver Needle hand rolled pearls with Jasmine Blooms. The smell and taste of the Jasmine was authentic, and not artificial. The aroma of the tea was of Jasmine flowers, sweet and soft, calming me down and reminding me of a sleepy time tea. The color of the liquor was very light, as expected from the white tea leaves. The white tea is tasty, I could taste the creaminess and sweetness from the Silver Needle tea. I steeped this tea 4 times, and by the 4th steep, the Jasmine had slowly gone away, but the Silver Needle was still as tasty as the first steep. In addition to the Silver Needle flavors, the taste has sweet finish, leaving the Jasmine flower smell in the aroma and the sweetness from the Jasmine in the cup. I really enjoy this tea, and imagine that it would be amazing iced!
